Semillas (seeds in engish) is an active, respèctful , community learning project set up by a group of families in Zaragoza in December 2011.
During this time, we have been working with other families on something which is now taking shape and now is the time to share the good news. The moment has arrived to see the shoots of the seeds we planted and to give a new name for the project we are building. We welcome you to ‘’The Forest’’.
‘’The Forest’’ has children aged 2 to 6 years .
Our project gives importance to attention, freedom, conflict as a learning experience, free expression, limits based on respect, individual needs, accompanying the overall growth of our children, taking into account each evolutionary period. The childrens’ development and learning is based on their own interests, motivation and inner needs.
At the same time , the importance of the group and the individual is present throughout as is its emotional care via meetings and assemblies.
We consider learning to be an ‘’inside-outside’’ process in which the environment should be rich in materials, activities and inter-community relations because at this age children need to play freely and spontaneously, accompanied by experienced staff. We take special care to make sure that the professional staff and the mothers and fathers can work together and reflect on the running of our project. This doné is in meetings, training courses and teaching and experience-sharing group sessions.
Working closely with the education team, mothers and fathers actively collaborate in the educational ideas with learning materials and offering suggestions and alternatives to help self-management. We are also an independent, non-profit making association organising not only family get-togethers and activities but also set up events and workshops in line with our philosophy and which have helped to finance our project over the years.
